MINUTES FROM JAN 27TH LEADERSHIP BOARD MEETING

The board met on January 27, 2010 over ICN across the state.  In attendance were Mike Cardin, Dave Messerli, Paul Neidemeyer, Eric Perry, Robin Madole, RJ Voss, Randy Trine, Hal Rossow, and Bill Wright:

The Hall of Fame committee selected four players to be inducted into the Players Hall of Fame this spring.  Players are Dale Kniss (Waterloo West), Jack Rule (Waterloo West), Andy Cohn (Waterloo West), and Susan Harmon (Cedar Rapids Washington).  Hall of Fame coach is Kent Johnson of Wapello with Brian Mumm (current Wapello coach) accepting.

The Presidents Award will be given to Bob Moreland of Ottumwa.  Mike Cardin will be introducing.

Rankings were discussed at great length.  It has been proposed and voted to NOT include rankings into the postseason.  Therefore the Sectional (Boys) and District (Girls) tournaments will be the final score on your yearly ranking.  At that time, an All-State Team will be determined.  Further discussion on number of meets a golfer can have to qualify for the rankings ensued.  Current a golfer must golf on varsity in at least 2/3 of the meets to qualify for rankings.  Extenuating circumstances may prevail only through special permission granted by the board.

We also discussed a new spreadsheet for 2010 rankings.  This sheet would be better in the fact you will not have to duplicate typing for individual scores from team information.  This does present a new form, but the calculation will still be performed by the spreadsheet.  The same common information will be entered by the coach.  This was not adopted yet, but we will discuss and get more facts about the new spreadsheet.

There was also a discussion on Team Power Rankings.  This is a combination of Team Adjusted Score and head-to-head competition.  Question arise in the team ranking when a team beats another team head-to-head, many times that defeat does not change a ranking.  With the combination of average and winning percentage, it will probably make that change.  This was not voted on and further discussion will take place next meeting.

We are still looking for 1A and 2A girls’ coaches to help with the compile the rankings.  If you have good computer skills, spreadsheet and formula background, and a good understanding how the rankings operate, we need you.

The scholarship committee reports that the final copy of the application will be typed in final format by Friday Jan 29.  RJ Voss is in charge of that.  Pending approval by the USGA, it will be forwarded on to all the board members for review and then published on the web-site.  There will be four $500 dollar scholarships given, two girls and two boys.  Applications will need to be submitted by June 15 and selections will be made and delivered by Aug 1.

Linda Bloom has a list of all schools that have joined the association at some time but have not joined to date.  She will be sending a reminder email to those coaches.  All coaches are encouraged to check the membership page on the website for their name.  There will be a new DEADLINE for membership this year.  The board is looking at the first week of May being the cut off for spring coaches.  Fall will also have a cutoff later to be determined somewhere around the end of September.

New board elections are this spring with the following election timeline for our board of candidates.

All coaches wishing to leave the board will notify Eric by Feb 24.  The new ballot of candidates will be posted March 1, 2010.  Members will vote between Mar 1 and May 15.  Between May 15 and June 1, ballots will be counted and officers notified.  All elected officers will be ready to attend the next meeting held June 8 in person at the State Co-Ed golf meet.  The board is in need of 1A and 2A coaches wishing to join our board this spring.  Anyone wishing or know of any coach that would be willing to help our association grow and serve our youth should contact Eric Perry at: eperry@clearlakeschools.org

Our next ICN board meeting will be scheduled for Feb 24, 2010 from 6pm to 8pm.  Sites will be requested and all will be notified once they are confirmed.
