Steve has coached the Spencer Boys Golf team since 1989. Prior to that he was the girls coach from 1983 – 88. Spencer has won 16 Lakes Conference Championships as well as 7 Sectional and 4 District titles since ’89. In addition the Tigers have appeared in the State Tournament 8 times with 3 runner-up finishes: 1992, 2009, and 2010.

Steve was named the 3A Coach of the Year by the IHSGCA in 2009.

Steve has taught at Spencer High School since 1980 – teaching AP US Government & Politics, American Government and American Experience.

Steve is married to Marti Bomgaars, an OTR-L for Prairie Lakes AEA. They have two adult daughters, Karah who lives in Grundy Center with her husband mason and son, Charlie and Liz who lives in DeKalb, IL with her husband Ryan.
